Therapy tailored to you
Frequently Asked Questions
Everyone's journey is different, if your question isn't answered here please contact us...

Can therapy help me?
Absolutely. Therapy can benefit anyone, whether you're navigating a specific challenge, going through a life transition, or simply looking to better understand yourself.
You don't need to be in crisis to seek support.
At our practice, we tailor therapy to you, your experiences, your goals, and your pace.
Whether you're dealing with anxiety, stress, relationship issues, trauma, or just feeling stuck, we're here to help you explore what's going on and find a path forward.
Everyone's journey is different, and so is our approach to helping you through it.
Is everything I say confidential?
Yes, everything you share in therapy is treated with the highest level of confidentiality. What you say stays between us, with a few legal exceptions—such as if there's a risk of serious harm to you or someone else, or if required by law. If any of these rare situations were to arise, I’d always aim to discuss it with you first wherever possible. Your privacy and trust are absolutely central to the work we do together.
What is the difference between the conscious and unconscious mind?
Your conscious mind is the part you're actively aware of, used for decision-making, focus, and logical thinking. In contrast, your unconscious mind works in the background, storing memories, habits, and emotional patterns that can influence how you think and behave, often without you realising.
Cognitive Hypnotherapy works by gently guiding you into a relaxed state where we can access this deeper part of your mind. This allows us to explore and shift underlying beliefs or patterns that may be holding you back. A helpful way to picture it is the iceberg analogy: your conscious mind is just the tip, while your unconscious lies beneath the surface, shaping much of your experience.
Do I need to believe in hypnosis for it to work?
No, you don’t need to 'believe' in hypnosis for it to be effective—you just need to be open to the process. Hypnosis is a natural state of focused attention that most people experience in everyday life (like daydreaming or getting lost in thought). In Cognitive Hypnotherapy, we work with how your mind already functions, using techniques tailored to you. Many clients are pleasantly surprised by how effective it is, even if they were sceptical at first.
Will I lose control while under hypnosis?
Not at all. Hypnosis isn’t about being unconscious or out of control, it's actually a natural, focused state where you're still aware of what's happening. You can talk, move, and even choose to come out of it at any time, and you will remember everything that has been said.
In Cognitive Hypnotherapy, you're always in charge.
Have you ever driven somewhere and realised you can't remember the journey? That is a natural everyday trance. My role is simply to guide you into trance via a relaxed state where your unconscious mind becomes more open to positive change. Nothing happens without your consent or awareness.

What techniques are used in
Cognitive Hypnotherapy?
Cognitive Hypnotherapy combines modern psychological techniques with tailored hypnotic suggestions to help you create lasting change. Depending on your needs, we might use tools from NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), parts work, timeline techniques, cognitive behavioural approaches, and guided visualisation. Sessions are fully personalised—there are no fixed scripts—so the techniques we use are chosen specifically to suit you, your goals, and how your mind works best.
What’s the difference between therapy, counselling, and coaching?
While they can overlap, therapy and counselling typically focus on understanding and healing emotional or psychological difficulties, often exploring past experiences and patterns. Coaching, on the other hand, is more future-focused—helping you set goals, build motivation, and create action plans for change. Our approach can integrate elements of all three, depending on what you need, offering support that's both reflective and forward-moving.
